Design of Snack Food Product with Positive Environmental Impact

Overview

The client aimed to create a snack food that matched or exceeded leading national brands in taste, texture, and nutritional value while embedding a positive environmental impact. This ambitious project required balancing sustainability with uncompromised product quality and consumer experience.

Approach

Sourced grains with a measurable carbon footprint reduction, integrating these ingredients into a new product prototype. We rigorously tested prototypes with consumers to ensure the desired taste, texture, and appearance were achieved. Detailed product and process specifications were developed to enable full-scale production, and packaging was designed to meet retail customer requirements while supporting sustainability goals.

Key Contributions

The approach to ingredient sourcing and carbon measurement provided the foundation for an environmentally impactful product. We developed robust specifications to maintain quality through commercialization and designed packaging to align with sustainable manufacturing processes and retail standards. The snack product was positioned to appeal to both consumers and retail buyers.

Impact

The snack food successfully launched with distribution across 6,700 stores in 49 states. Consumer feedback highlighted satisfaction with the product experience, with many requesting additional flavors. The positive environmental message resonated strongly with consumers, and social media engagement expanded product awareness, setting the stage for further market growth.
